TaDaaaaaa

Well, friends...here it is!
Of the energy, enthusiasm, friendships made and rekindled and the wowness factor of participating in this fantastic project, we can only say once again, how grateful everyone at LBC is for this gift of community.
There are only a few touchups remaining. The flooring and baseboards will be completed when the concrete floor is dry; the steps to the deck will be added soon.
Remember to come out to "OOOOOH" and "AHHHHH" on Saturday June 26th for our Open House, from 1-4PM.

Rain Delay (Just Like Baseball!)
On Day 1, we experienced a deluge of rain, at the wrong time. The structure was not fully enclosed during the rain and a substantial amount of water ended up on the basement floor. While the volunteer crew was able to mop up most of the water, the concrete floor is extremely damp. Professional opinions have informed us of the high possibility of damage to any subfloor and flooring if they are installed on the damp concrete. Rather than rush to install flooring that may be ruined due to the moisture, a decision has been made to allow the basement to fully dry over the next 5-7 days and delay the installation of the flooring.
As a result the open house planned for this Sunday has been POSTPONED until SATURDAY, JUNE 26 FROM 1:00 – 4:00 PM with a dedication ceremony at 3:00.
The cabin is fully enclosed (see the pics below) and this extra time will allow for a fully dry floor for our flooring.

Thursday 7 AM - Rain or Shine - Part 2
The rain currently forecasted for Thursday has the potential to create some challenges which may result in changes to the work schedule. If you are involved with the build itself, please monitor your email and this website from now until the Saturday June 5, especially from now until Thursday morning.
There is a possibility that work you've been scheduled for has already been completed or there is a delay in your start time so we ask for your understanding and flexibility.
We will endeavour to provide the best information we have as soon as we have it.

Thursday 7 AM - Rain or Shine
The contingency plan has been established and the build will start on Thursday at 7AM regardless of the weather. There may be slight changes depending upon the magnitude of the rain (It will be sunny and warm....promise!) but the showers will hold off until work is done for the day...and yes, you can quote that you heard it here first!
And...away we go!
And...away we go!
Schedule
The volunteer schedule has been sent out. Please email Janet Robinson at plans@robinsonplans.com if you have not seen it yet.

Volunteer SUCCESS ! ! !
Hi,
All volunteer positions for the 3 Day Build have been filled. Of course, if you want to come out and assist with some other maintenance duties around the camp, you are most welcome - but you still have to register, just be aware you probably will not be working on the new cabin. (Better yet, come out and deliver a significant donation!!)
Don't forget to attend the volunteer session on Monday night...more info in the "Volunteer News" posting below.

Safety First
Hey! Guess What?
The Saskatchewan Construction Safety Association has selected the LBC 3DB as a key project. Not only will this provide for additional safety consciousness at the site, there is a free Safety Training certification course offer. This class will take about 3.5 hours to complete...call SCSA at 525-0175 for information or to register for one of the following spots allocated for LBC. There will be two groups each day 8:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Spots are limited, so please register early: Each of May 26-28, May 31 and June 1.
The certification will be good for a 3 year period.
PS. Don't forget the volunteer night on Monday May 31 (see next post)

Volunteer News
In preparation for the 3 day build, all volunteers are requested to attend a very important meeting on Monday, May 31st at 7PM at Eastside United Church, Regina. (3018 Doan Drive, just off Arcola Avenue East). It is in the Living Spirit Centre.
Build Coordinator, John Robinson, will be providing very crucial information about the build schedule, hour by hour for the three days and will be presenting the volunteer teams and captains.
It is important that you attend to understand the build schedule. Kinda like choreography of the Ballet For Hammers! (?? hmm, I have to get a better metaphor ! Any suggestions?)

Great News!
We have had a fantastic week of fundraising (1 down, 4 to go!) and have topped $40,000 in contributions. Listen to some the comments:
"In memory of Herman Pohl, a man of character who would have been inspired by this dream"
"I was in the Young People Union group that re-opened LBC after the 2nd World War, so I think it should continue to open"
Donations are from far and wide: Regina, Saskatoon and even Ottawa. WOW!
So far, 18 individuals or groups have donated $1000 or more and scores of individuals have offered contributions of cash and donated material and labour. (All donations are eligible for a tax receipt.)
Look out June 3...here comes the 3 Day Build!

Fundraising Objectives
Our ultimate fundraising objective of $170,000 can be met by one of several different methods:
170 individuals or families each donating $1000......or.....for those who cannot provide this support, we offer a suggestion of assisting us with the purchase of building materials: $25 for a doorknob, $75 for a door, $350 for a window and the like.
We are also seeing tremendous support from individual churches as congregations are launching programs to provide funding for the Three Day Build.
Every little bit helps and all is graciously accepted.

Ready, set, go!
The design is ready, the volunteers are eager and most importantly, the old cabin is in the landfill. So now the countdown is on!
This spring we will build a new staff cabin at the Lumsden Beach Camp. All we need to make it happen is a lot of hard work, many prayers and some money. The praying has begun. The work will start in earnest this spring. Right now, we need money!
How can you help? Donate now. And spread the word.
